In 1967, Farmers Union Central Exchange provided propane services in the Central Montana area for the locally-owned Farmers Co-op Patrons such as Moore Farmers Oil, Winifred Farmers Oil, Farmers Elevator in Denton, Equity Co-op in Geraldine, Great Falls Farmers Union Oil, Benchland Farmers Oil, and Fort Benton Farmers Oil.
Since that time, propane using patrons have gotten much larger, and some co-ops have merged and started taking care of their own patrons.
In 1997 the local co-ops in the Lewistown area purchased the propane business and formed Central Montana Propane, LLC. Today, Central Montana Propane is 100% owned by two local co-ops - Moore Farmers Oil and CHS-Big Sky.
